Foodbank Donations

Norwich FoodbankOn Wednesday 27th January 2016, Claire from Norwich Foodbank came in to assembly to explain how the food is boxed up when it is taken back to the depot. We learnt the boxes can be for two people, labelled ‘couple’ or for 4 people, labelled ‘family’.

On Friday 29th January 2016, pupils brought many different food types in to school to create a food mountain in the hall.

A really big thank you to all the children and parents for your generous donations, they were gratefully received and have been collected by the Norwich Foodbank team to help people in our local community.

Ms Smith and the School Council

Helping Our Community

CJS raised an amazing £122.00 for the Nook appeal charity. We accomplished this by wearing Christmas jumper, hats and head accessories and bringing in £1.00. We are sure the Nook will succeed in raising £10 million.

Children in Need 2015

On Friday 13th November Colman Junior  School raised £228.00 for Children in Need appeal by dressing up as a film or book character. Everybody enjoyed the experience whilst also contributing money for a great cause. There were lots of different characters, and it was especially funny seeing teachers all dressed up. Every costume was creative in its own way and we are really proud of the money we have raised. Thank you everyone for all your help and support.

Colman Friendship Squad

By Rahima (CJS Chair person)

In our school we decided to have a friendship squad to play with people who are feeling sad or lonely. Each class had their own ideas for what it should be called (a few ideas including playground police and super hero friends), how it should be grouped (year 6 or year 4 and 5) and what they should wear. Everyone gave their ideas to their Class Council rep who took them to the School Council meeting. We voted on our favourite ideas and added a few of our own. In the end, we decided on calling it ‘Friendship squad’. It will be run by year 4 and 5 and they would wear caps and badges. School Council shared the outcomes in a whole school assembly.

Year 4 and Year 5 can apply for a Friendship squad position. Application forms are available in the beehives. The closing date is Wednesday 18th March, 2013. Ms Smith and the School Council will look at all the application forms and successful applications will be informed before Easter.

The Friendship squad will receive a days training with Ms Smith. The Friendship squad will have a rota, one lunch time and one break time each week. They will teach traditional playground games or help pupils to make new friends. Everyone who wants to take part has to fill in a form saying why they want to be part of the friend ship squad.

School Poster Competition

In our school, pupils have not always been flushing the toilet and washing their hands. So, School Council decided to hold a poster competition to promote washing hands and flushing the toilet.

The poster competition was launched in an assembly, with Wednesday 26th January as the closing date. The Chairperson (Rahima), Secretary (Eric), Treasurer (Jorj) with Ms Smith, looked at all the entries and selected 6 upper and lower school entries to take to the School Council meeting on Friday 30th January. The School Council voted on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd poster places for both upper and lower school.

On Thursday 5th February, Mary Harman and Julia Boom from the School Nursing Team, came in to school to talk to us about why and how to wash your hands properly in assembly. We learnt a lot about how to outsmart germs! Also, the competition prizes were presented to the winners of the poster competition.
